Meet Melissa

(in her own words)
Kunye has been a project many years in the making. As I have grown and evolved as an individual, Kunye has very much done the same. This is the culmination of my ongoing exploration of my inner, outer, and higher Self.

Self-exploration is an integral part of my healing journey. I really try to exist in my own energetic field and self-care has been the mechanism I’ve used to develop and maintain that energy field.

To me, self-care is the sum of meaningful actions that we take to ground, nourish, and connect. It’s a very necessary anchor that keeps me steady when I start to drift away from who I truly am.

That's why I created kunye. In the spirit of meaningful action, Kunye is a Slow Wellness and Mindful Movement community with the intention of supporting your self-exploration and self-care as you move through your own journey.

The word Kunye means “oneness.” It is a tribute to my mother in her native Zulu language and represents the unity of our actions and the alignment of our mind (inner), body (outer) and spirit (higher).

In addition to guiding the brand, I’m a clinical pilates and yoga instructor, product developer, meditator, and mama to a little fur baby named Hobbs. Join me each week for live mindful movement classes on zoom, and #calmversations about all things wellness over on the ‘gram.

We work to galvanize the power of Self through the practice of Body Care + Mindful Movement. We are shifting the self-care paradigm and seeking to diversify popular representations of health and healing. Kunye muses on the notion of the inner, the outer, and the higher aspects of Self; and the profound power of introspection and self-care to power your self-agency.

Kunye operates from a place of curiosity and exploration. We are a destination dedicated to self-care and the pursuit of self-actualization.
