Motherhood Redefined with Amrina Carson

It was a pleasure connecting with the lovely Amrina Carson for our Motherhood Redefined Spotlight Series. Amrina is a mom of two adorable children. It’s always so inspiring reading her posts about her motherhood journey as she reflects and shares insights into the realness and candid moments motherhood brings.

In our first Motherhood Redefined Series spotlight, we asked Amrina about how she is redefining her own journey into motherhood and who she has leaned on the most as she continue to evolve as a woman and mother.

What has surprised you the most about yourself (so far) in your motherhood journey?

Amrina: My strength to keep going when I think I can't. I have learned I am a lot stronger than I gave myself credit for. My ability to advocate for my children and create boundaries. This is something I was never able to do before having kids How much of my childhood & the way I was raised has translated in to how I parent & react to situations with my own kids. I most certainly did not expect this but I am genuinely happier in my own skin than I have ever been.

What (or who) have you leaned on since becoming a mother?

I don't know what I would have done postpartum without my own mother. My mom took care of me so that I could focus on taking care of my babies. She did things that only my Mom could help me do. She helped me breastfeed, helped me get dressed & made me my favourite meals. As she became a grandmother for the first time, We learned our new roles together & I will forever cherish those moments.

There are so many mamas in my community and I am so grateful for it. We've leaned on each other for emotional support more times than I can count. whether it's dropping off a coffee or texting through the day while both knee deep in chaos. My friends and sisters who became moms alongside me have been such a blessing to have throughout this journey. Specifically when I think of leaning on someone, one of my best friends comes to mind. She has kids a few years older than mine so she went through it all first. She is that friend that I can call when I need to vent about my kids & need a good laugh but also the friend I put on my daughter's school pick up list. She was there in the hospital helping us feed our baby with a dropper & formula. She was there to babysit my 4 month old the first time I went out at night. She was there to help me put the kids to bed when my husband was still at work. My motherhood journey would look a lot different without her.
